I'll have to borrow the Orwell book from you.japalinkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03662990980412670518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13063593.post-1149477221150564922006-06-05T12:13:00.000+09:002006-06-05T12:13:00.000+09:00It just so happens that Lady Chatterley's Lover wa...It just so happens that Lady Chatterley's Lover was the 2nd last book I read! I chose it because I thought it would be saucy, pretty disappointed on that account but it turned out be in interesting in terms of the class divisions in the UK. In the book I just finished (Road to Wigan Pier by Orwell) Orwell comment on D H Lawrence and L C's Lover a couple of times while talking about social class in the UK. He didn't have a terribly high opinion of it but apparently he (Lawrence) is a classic example of a working class person who enters the lower upper middle class via the route of literary intelligentsia (Orwell's words not mine - I have no idea).Craig Mauelshagenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11510080492066302875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13063593.post-1149426327809091942006-06-04T22:05:00.000+09:002006-06-04T22:05:00.000+09:00it's about a girl growing up in Brooklyn at the tu...it's about a girl growing up in Brooklyn at the turn of the 20th century. it gives a very good picture of life in the working neighborhoods of new york. touches on everything: education, jobs, family. I really liked it as a potential novel to use in classrooms, either for literature or for a fictional slice of American life in a history class.japalinkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03662990980412670518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13063593.post-1149380331694324212006-06-04T09:18:00.000+09:002006-06-04T09:18:00.000+09:00Hey, can you cheat and put A Drinking Life in ther...Hey, can you cheat and put A Drinking Life in there for four stars?
