These were both taken tonight, two minutes apart. I'm perplexed by the dramatic difference the zoom made. And this view is only a 3 minute walk from my apartment building.

hmm... yes, what they said. it has to do with the field area of your lense and therefore the options that your camera will pick for you. Don't be perplexed, it is the modern age, just roll with it darling.
